Two Vermont farms are getting a total of more than $185,000 in grants as part of a federal program that encourages the production of value-added agricultural products.
The funding will go toward expanding natural meat production and to develop nutritional labels, as well as other products.
Senator Patrick Leahy, who announced the funding Wednesday, says value-added agriculture creates new jobs, contributing to community and rural economic development and building on the record and reputation for quality that has become a Vermont trademark.
North Hollow Farm LLC in Rochester will receive more than $161,000 to expand processing and marketing of grass-fed beef and natural meats. Sweet Rowen Farmstead LLC in West Glover will use more than $24,000 for hiring and employee training, and developing nutritional labels for its products.
