The Massachusetts Democratic Party wrapped up its two-day convention around 7 p.m. Saturday. The party officially endorsed Massachusetts Treasurer Steve Grossman as candidate for governor. Grossman received 35.2 percent of the vote from the 4,389 delegates who voted in that race.
State Attorney General Martha Coakley received 23.3 percent and former federal healthcare administrator Don Berwick received 22.1 percent of the vote. They will both be listed below Grossman on September's primary ballot.
Two gubernatorial candidates, Juliette Kayyem and Joe Avellone, failed to get the 659 votes, or 15 percent, needed to get on the ballot. Kayyem came in at 12.1 percent and Avellone got 7 percent.
In the lieutenant governor's race, Steve Kerrigan received 37.6 percent, Mike Lake got 35.4 percent and Leland Cheung came in at 16.2 percent. All three will be on September's primary ballot. James Arena-DeRosa received 10.6 percent, failing to get the necessary 15 percent all candidates needed to get on the primary ballot. Kerrigan and Lake decided not to request a second vote count, meaning the Massachusetts Democratic Party will not endorse a candidate in the race.
The Democratic Party endorsed Warren Tolman for attorney general after he received 51.8 percent. Maura Healey came in at 48.1 percent, meaning both will be on September's primary ballot.
Three candidates, Deb Goldberg at 38.9 percent, Tom Conroy at 33.9 percent and Barry Finegold at 27.1 percent received enough support to get on September's ballot. Goldberg and Conroy decided not to pursue a second vote count, meaning the Massachusetts Democratic Party will not endorse a candidate in the race.
On Friday, the party officially nominated State Auditor Suzanne Bump, Sec. of the Commonwealth Bill Galvin and U.S. Senator Ed Markey for reelection. All three do not have Democratic opponents.
