Entertainment giant MGM is expected to get the nod from Massachusetts gaming industry regulators Friday to build a resort casino in Springfield.
MGM received consistently high marks during two days of public meetings where Massachusetts Gaming Commissioners completed an exhaustive evaluation of the company’s plans for the Springfield casino. The commissioners will meet Friday morning in Springfield to designate MGM as the winner of the lone casino license authorized in western Massachusetts. MGM Springfield President Mike Mathis said they’re working on an agreement that would delay mandatory license fees and other payments until the possible repeal of casino gambling in Massachusetts is resolved.
" The commissioners will make the final decision on our request, but we think they are sympathetic to our request."
The state’s highest court is expected to rule in a few weeks on whether the casino repeal question can go on the November ballot.
