Vermont Guard Releases Noise Plan For New Jets

U.S. Air Force

The Vermont National Guard is outlining its plans to mitigate the noise of the new F-35 fighter jets due to arrive in Burlington in six years.

The guard on Friday released its mitigation and management plan for basing 18 F-35A jets at the Burlington International Airport.

The report says the most significant environmental impact of the F-35 is expected to be the noise of planes. The F-35 is thought to be significantly louder than the F-16s the guard currently flies.

Part of the plan will be to use existing procedures to reduce noise such as adjusted power settings and flight patterns, but the report says the F-35 is a new aircraft and changes could be made as more is learned about its operation.
