President Obama To Speak At Worcester Tech Graduation

The White House

President Barack Obama will deliver the commencement address at a Massachusetts high school in June.

The President will deliver the main address at the Worcester Technical High School graduation on June 11.  The White House said it is the only high school address Mr. Obama will do this year. The school’s principal Sheila Harrity said in a prepared statement that it was an honor the President has chosen to address the  graduates and that his commitment to promoting equality of opportunity for all will inspire the class of 2014.  The Worcester school has undergone a transformation from one of the worst schools in the state to being held up as model for career and vocational education. The US Education Secretary Arne Duncan visited the school last week.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
