A committee of the trustees of the Vermont State Colleges is recommending that tuition not be increased for Vermont students at the five schools for the next academic year.

The committee's 4-to-2 vote was Wednesday. The issue now must go before the full Board of Trustees, scheduled for next week.

The chancellor of the state colleges had recommended a 3-percent tuition increase over the next two years.

State college spokesman Dan Smith says the panel voted to recommend a zero percent tuition increase for Vermont undergraduate students.

The Vermont State Colleges include Castleton State College, Community College of Vermont, Johnson State College, Lyndon State College and Vermont Technical College.
