VT Governor's Proposed '15 Budget Up 3.5 Percent

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin says he wants to increase state spending by almost 3.56 percent in the next fiscal year.

Shumlin outlined his priorities Wednesday during his annual budget address to the joint House and Senate.

The Democratic governor says a projected $70 million budget shortfall can be closed without any new broad-based taxes with about $30 million in one-time funds.  "Our challenge in balancing the budget is not to eviscerate worthwhile programs serving Vermonters, but instead to curb the rate of growth and bring our programs back in line with our revenues."
