Casino Opponents Petition For Gaming Law Repeal Vote

Anti-casino groups across Massachusetts are petitioning for a voter referendum to repeal the state’s 2011 gambling law.

A formal petition was filed Wednesday with the Massachusetts attorney general’s office, the first step in a lengthy process to put a question on the 2014 state election ballot.  One of the backers of the initiative petition is  the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts. Bishop Douglas Fisher says he’s hopeful state voters will put a stop to casinos

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission  expects to issue a license for a slots parlor by the end of this year and to award casino licenses in western and eastern Massachusetts by April 2014 well before the gambling law repeal vote would occur.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home.
