Study Finds No Problems With Vermont Wind Project

An independent study of noise generated by a Sheffield wind project commissioned by the Vermont Department of Public Service found that noise levels from the turbines were below state limits.

The department says no testing was done inside the home so no definitive conclusions could be reached, but the report "strongly suggests" the Sheffield wind project, owned by First Wind of Boston, is operating within state limits.

Sheffield residents Steven and Luann Therrien and their two pre-school-aged children have said the noise from the turbines is hurting their health.

The Caledonian Record reports the Therriens said the conditions during the three-day December monitoring period were not as bad as they often are. The consultant recommended a longer study.

The 16-turbine Sheffield operation went online in the fall of 2011.
