The mayor of Springfield ,Massachusetts today will take the wraps off his proposed budget for next year.
Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno warned in an interview earlier this year that he was facing grim choices in putting together the fiscal 2014 municipal budget.
Springfield’s tax base has been hammered by declining property values due in large part to a high number of foreclosures. Local aid is a third of what it was prior to the recession. The Springfield City Council has until June 30th to act on the mayor’s recommended budget.
