The Vermont Senate has advanced a bill calling for more study of large-scale renewable energy development in Vermont, while taking out several provisions sought by foes of mountaintop wind power.
The 24-6 vote came after a much closer series of votes on an amendment to remove provisions requiring greater consideration of town and regional plans when the Public Service Board reviews energy projects.
The action prompted a strong wind power supporter — Paul Burns of the Vermont Public Interest Research Group — to say the bill was "still an anti-renewable dog, but now it's had all its teeth removed.”
The Senate normally would take up final action on the bill on Wednesday, but it could be delayed.
