The Massachusetts Gaming Commission, Thursday, unanimously rejected several requests to waive the gaming license application deadline.
The mayor of Chicopee had asked for more time to pull together a possible casino development deal. Two companies asked for a six month extension to try to overcome opposition to their projects by the mayor of Holyoke. Commissioner Bruce Stebbins said there were no extraordinary circumstances to justify granting a waiver.
11 applications for gaming licences, which had to include a $400,000 non refundable fee were filed by the January 15th deadline. The commission will conduct background investigations of all the applicants before considering their specific projects.
