PCBs and The Housatonic, Then and Now

Berkshire County – In 1979, the EPA banned the use of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (bi-fenn-uls), or PCB's, as a result of their devastating effects on the environment and the human body. Thirty years later, researchers are still discovering the harmful repercussions of the one-time super fluid. General Electric's Pittsfield plant was the primary source of PCB contamination in the Housatonic River. WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief Charlie Deitz reports on PCB's in the Housatonic, then and now .
