New York U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says Stewart Air National Guard base is one of seven bases being considered across the nation for a new mission.

Senator Gillibrand, who is ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee, announced Wednesday that Stewart Air National Guard Base is being considered to host an Air Force Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron. Gillibrand says she has been pushing for the 105th Airlift Wing at Stewart to receive this squadron. If approved, Stewart Air National Guard would provide in-flight patient care in response to contingencies and humanitarian emergencies. Commander of the 105th Maintenance Group Colonel Marc Kelly says the Airlift Wing at Stewart was the only C-17 unit to make the list, and has an experienced aircrew that has operated Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron missions for more than seven years.
