A NY Law Cuts Through Red Tape For Farm Vehicle Registration

A bill that eliminates an administrative burden for farmers in New York is now law.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the farm vehicle registration bill Wednesday. Hudson Valley Democrat Jen Metzger, who chairs the Senate’s Agricultural Committee, sponsored the bill in her chamber. She says the legislation helps small and mid-sized family farms who often do not have the bandwidth to file exhaustive paperwork for their vehicles’ day-to-day usage. Prior to the new law, agricultural vehicle owners were required to file and maintain a registration that verifies the vehicle's point of origin, and they had to maintain a card attached to the registration that specified each anticipated destination. The New York Farm Bureau supports the bill it says simplifies recordkeeping and cuts through red tape. Syracuse Democrat William Magnarelli was the bill’s assembly sponsor.
