Two NYS Lawmakers Call On Commission To Close Double-Dipping Loophole

Two New York state assemblymen from the Hudson Valley are asking a commission to close what they say is an egregious loophole.

The loophole that allows for double dipping is something Republican Kevin Byrne and Democrat James Skoufis want to see closed. The assemblymen have written to members of the New York State Commission on Legislative, Judicial, and Executive Compensation, requesting they close the loophole that allows state legislators aged 65 and older and elected before 1995 to draw both a salary and pension for the same position at the same time. Skoufis, who is running for state Senate, and Byrne say that while they both voted against the creation of the pay commission in the 2018-2019 budget, they see an opportunity for the commission to right what they call a longstanding wrong.
