NYS Assembly Begins Interviews For Interim AG

NYS Capitol

New York state Assembly members are interviewing candidates Tuesday for interim attorney general, following the resignation of Eric Schneiderman last week amid sexual abuse allegations. The appointment would run until the end of the year.

Acting Attorney General Barbara Underwood and Hudson Valley Democratic state Assemblyman Tom Abinanti of Westchester are among seven candidates being interviewed Tuesday. Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney of the 18th district had been on the list, but said Monday he would not interview for the appointment. Maloney says he will decide soon on whether to run for the post in a November election. And Fordham Law Professor Zephyr Teachout on Monday announced she had launched an exploratory committee to run for attorney general. Interviews continue Wednesday.
