NYS Helps Rockland Clear Downed Trees

A second major snowstorm to hit the region in less than a week left portions of Rockland County with many downed trees. And the county executive has been working with the state for assistance.

County Executive Ed Day says Rockland officials had been communicating with the governor’s office and New York National Guard members were being deployed Thursday to Rockland to assist with the removal of downed trees. Day says that many trees came down Wednesday evening during the storm, and these trees have been hampering power restoration and snow removal. As of Thursday afternoon, Orange & Rockland utilities had more than 45,000 customers without power — about 20,000 in Rockland, some 1,800 in Orange and roughly 2,400 in Sullivan. Day says O&R was reaching out to local union members to provide site safety, freeing up law enforcement and volunteer firefighters currently handling these responsibilities.
