Entergy, Union Reach Contract Agreement

WAMC, Allison Dunne

The parent company of New York’s Indian Point nuclear plant and utility workers union have agreed on a four-year contract. This comes after days of tense negotiations.

Entergy and Local 1-2 Utility Workers of America reached an agreement early Wednesday morning on a new four-year contract for the union’s approximately 330 workers at Buchanan-based Indian Point. An Entergy spokesman says union membership is expected to vote on the agreement within the next few weeks. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Union officials had been pressing for a new collective bargaining agreement through 2022, one year after the plant’s scheduled closure. Local 1-2 had wanted Entergy to retain its workers for the decommissioning process and Entergy said that was not feasible. In total, Indian Point has nearly 1,000 employees.
