HV Rep's Bill Mandating PFOS/PFOA Study Is Law

WAMC, Allison Dunne

Two pieces of legislation from a Hudson Valley congressman have become law after President Trump signed the National Defense Authorization Bill Tuesday.

Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney says his “Investing in Testing Act,” which requires the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct a comprehensive study into the long-term health effects of PFOS and PFOA was part of the defense bill. The CDC is to conduct a five-year, $7 million study. Maloney’s 18th District includes the City of Newburgh, which has been addressing PFOS drinking water contamination since May of 2016.  Also now law is Maloney’s “Protecting Servicemembers from Debt Collectors Act” Act, which would stop debt collectors from contacting servicemembers’ commanding officers in an attempt to collect payment.
