March Snowstorm Walloped Poughkeepsie's Budget

The blizzard that hit Dutchess County and elsewhere in the Hudson Valley earlier in March has taken a financial toll on the City of Poughkeepsie.

Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison says the major snowstorm that began March 14 will cost an estimated $450,000 for the city’s six day, around-the-clock snow operations. The expenditure has now put the already strapped city over its snow-removal operations budget of $590,000 by about $100,000. Rolison says the cost overruns must be offset by savings in other budget lines and he has instructed the commissioner of finance to work with all department heads to identify areas to save money.
