Two New York state lawmakers from the Hudson Valley say help is on the way for a local lake overrun with an invasive plant.

Ridgebury Lake in the Town of Wawayanda in Orange County has been overrun with Eurasian milfoil, an aquatic plant with feathery leaves. Democratic Assemblyman James Skoufis and Republican Senator John Bonacic have announced that the state Department of Environmental Conservation has agreed to fund treatment of the lake in 2017 as well as an aquatic plant management plan for the lake. In 2008, DEC helped eradicate Northern Snakeheads, an invasive fish species, but local officials say all fish have gone and plants overtook what was once a thriving ecosystem and community recreational asset.
