Decorated Army Sergeant From Rockland Dies In Colorado

A decorated Army sergeant from Rockland County has died in Colorado, leaving behind a wife and daughter.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day says 28-year-old Army Sergeant James Morrison, of Wesley Hills, was on active duty in Fort Carson, Colorado, when he died Wednesday. Day says Morrison’s death is being investigated as a suicide. Morrison’s parents want their son to be remembered as a hero and his death to serve as a reminder that military members should not be ashamed to seek assistance for mental health issues. Richard Morrison says his son is proof that post-traumatic stress disorder is real. Sergeant Morrison, a 2006 Ramapo High School graduate, was cited for heroism in 2011 by then-U.S. military commander in Afghanistan General David Petraeus.
