The Board of Trustees of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie announced Tuesday that President Catharine Hill will conclude her presidency at the end of her current term on June 30, 2017.  Her departure will mark the end of 11 years of leadership at Vassar.

In a letter to members of the Vassar community, Hill writes that she is most proud of how the diversity of the student body has grown.

“We’ve really tremendously changed the nature of the student body, significantly increased the socioeconomic diversity as well as the racial diversity.”

She says the number of low-income students at Vassar has doubled from a decade ago. President Hill and the board established the June 2017 completion date as a part of her current contract, agreed upon in December 2012.  Announcing this now provides adequate time for the search process for the next president.
