The issuance of casino licenses is weeks, if not days away, and two hotel operators have expressed interest in building facilities in the Village of Monticello in hopes of capitalizing on some of the spillover.

Mayor Douglas Solomon said there is interest in the hospitality trade in the village.

“We spoke to a party that was interested in putting a chain hotel down East Broadway and also one out on (Route) 17B,” Solomon said.

With the casino-resort to be constructed nearby in Kiamesha Lake, Solomon said it is expected to mean growth in his village.

“I think definitely the village and the Town of Thompson without a doubt, will be big, and we have to be prepared for it,” the mayor said.

State officials hope to have the license for the Montreign casino issued by the end of the year.
