Ahead of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State speech Wednesday, there’s a conference today in Manhattan about the fiscal crisis facing New York’s counties.

Founder of non-profit state policy and reform group EffectiveNY Bill Samuels says he along with elected officials and other leaders plan to discuss proposals for reducing the property tax burden, creating new sources of revenue, and building long-term economic growth. Scheduled participants include state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli; Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner; Ulster County Executive Mike Hein and Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus. The conference, organized with media group City & State, is called “Property Taxes and New York’s Future: Solving the Fiscal Crisis of Counties.” The conference comes one week after Governor Cuomo announced a $1.6 billion property tax credit program.
