Three environmental groups are suing a number of New York state officials and agencies over the planned use of Clean Water Act funds for the replacement Tappan Zee Bridge.
Riverkeeper, Waterkeeper Alliance and Environmental Advocates of New York Monday filed a lawsuit against New York State officials, seeking to ensure that federal Clean Water Act funds will not be used in building the new Tappan Zee Bridge or for other such future projects. “If New York gets away with this overreach, the state will be creating a blueprint for other states to raid clean Water Act funds,” says Yaggi.
The groups want to stop the state from proceeding with Cuomo's proposal to use $511 million in clean water loans on the $3.9 billion New NY Bridge project. The Environmental Protection Agency in September rejected most of Governor Andrew Cuomo's proposal, a decision the state plans to appeal.
