Teachout To Join Others In Westchester For Anti-Fracking Rally

WAMC, Allison Dunne

Zephyr Teachout will be among those at a rally in Westchester Saturday to call on New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to ban fracking.

Fordham University Law School Professor Zephyr Teachout, who lost to Governor Cuomo in the Democratic primary, will march with White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach and Westchester residents from Renaissance Plaza to city hall in White Plains. A rally follows. Stephen Gyetko is with New Yorkers Against Fracking.

“We want to send a message to Governor Cuomo to issue a total ban on fracking statewide,” says Gyetko. “A moratorium is not enough because that can be lifted at any moment.”

Cuomo has said his decision will be based on science, not emotions, and is awaiting studies from the state Departments of Health and Environmental Conservation. The 1 p.m. White Plains march and rally is part of Global Frackdown, an international day of action initiated by Food & Water Watch to ban fracking.
