Romney Backs NY Congressional Candidate

A former presidential candidate is supporting a congressional candidate in the Hudson Valley. The district includes all of Orange and Putnam Counties as well as parts of Dutchess and Westchester Counties.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney Wednesday endorsed fellow Republican Nan Hayworth in the 18th congressional district. Hayworth, in a rematch, is running against Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney, who beat Hayworth in 2012. Also in 2012, voters in this congressional district voted for Barack Obama over Mitt Romney for president by a margin of 51-47 percent. Romney says Hayworth is a doctor you can trust to help fix the country’s broken health care system and a compassionate voice for those struggling in this difficult economy. A Maloney spokeswoman issued a statement that says, in part, quote, "Mitt Romney and Tea Party Congresswoman Nan Hayworth are two peas in a pod - out-of-touch millionaires who want to replace Medicare benefits with vouchers just to pay for more tax breaks for themselves.”
