Third GOP Hopeful Pulls Out Of NYS Senate Race

The City of Poughkeepsie mayor has pulled out of what was once a crowded Republican primary field in a New York state senate race.

Poughkeepsie City Mayor John Tkazyik says he is withdrawing from the race for the 41st Senate District and throwing his support behind Dutchess County Legislator Sue Serino. Serino was the latest entrant in what was once a Republican field of four. Dutchess County Legislature Chairman Rob Rolison announced in mid-May he was pulling out of the race, and Dutchess County Comptroller Jim Coughlan left the race about two weeks later. Tkazyik, in a statement, says given the fact that the Republican, Conservative, and Independence Parties have endorsed Serino, and after weighing his chances of not only winning a Republican primary, but a general election, he concluded that he did not want to upset any chances for a Republican win in November against first-term incumbent Democrat Terry Gipson.
