New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Friday toured the construction site for the new Tappan Zee Bridge in the lower Hudson Valley.
Governor Andrew Cuomo inspected the start of formal construction on the New NY Bridge to see the progress of the new bridge to replace the Tappan Zee. The tour included a briefing from the project’s lead construction officials and was the first of monthly briefings the governor will receive. The tour came the same day Moody’s downgraded the New York State Thruway Authority’s credit rating from A1 to A2, in part, says the investors service, because financial performance is tied to as yet undetermined toll increases needed to cover costs of the new bridge. Cuomo announced that the project is on budget and on schedule. He says the bridge is slated to be completed in just less than five years from the start of formal construction, which began October 16. New York received federal approval October 31 on an up to $1.6 billion dollar loan for the new bridge. The Tappan Zee connects Rockland and Westchester Counties.
