NYS State Senator Touts Good Neighbor Bill

A New York state Senator will be in Poughkeepsie today to talk about his good neighbor bill.

Democratic Senator Terry Gipson, of Rhinebeck, will be in the Town of Poughkeepsie later this morning to talk about his bill that requires a plaintiff in a mortgage foreclosure action to maintain the property in good faith and provide a point of contact. Gipson says that officials in the Putnam County Village of Cold Spring as well as the Poughkeepsie Town Supervisor had requested that he introduce such a bill. The financial crisis has forced many residents to fall into foreclosure situations, and Gipson says that, in some instances, the foreclosing institution will start the process but not follow through, or delay taking control of the property. He says leaving the properties unkempt blights surrounding neighborhoods. Gipson’s bill has 10 co-sponsors, with Democrat Sean Ryan of Buffalo sponsoring the bill in the Assembly.
