Students, parents and teachers in an Orange County School District are embracing mobile-optimized learning technology, as we hear in this report from Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Dave Lucas.
The Warwick Valley Central School District in Orange county is no stranger to "Generation Text" - 16-year old Ryan Dans is a Junior at Warwick High. The school is using its “Generation Text” ready learning technology for all of its students and parents as well. Ryan's dad, Joe Dans wants more parents need to learn about the new technology.
That's the concept behind next week's Tech Expo at Warwick: - Yvonne Koulikov is an instructional technology staff developer at the school - she explains the Expo is designed to promote the school-to-home connection.
Koulikov point sout that several states now mandate virtual components to traditional brick and mortar schools.
Warwick Assistant Superintendent Dr. Marijane Reinhard hopes the expo will underscore "the case for technology in the classroom" to Board of Education officials. Reinhard and other officials are hoping the BOE and Superintendent of schools will recognize the need to shift from textbooks and workbooks to text messaging and web learning - Ali Carr-Chellman is an expert on educational technology based at Penn State: she sees the teacher's role shifting from "lecturer" to that of a "guru" or mentor, charged with teaching kids how to love learning and engage in critical thinking.
The public is encouraged to attend the Tech Expo at Warwick on Monday October 29th from 3-7 p.m. at the district office. Parents and community members are invited to come in and learn about technology and web applications teachers and students are using to meet the needs of the 21st Century learner.
