Vermont’s Town Meeting Day is Tuesday and local elections will be held across the state. In the state’s largest city, a number of candidates are running for four open seats on the Burlington City Council.  In the city’s South District, incumbent Democrat Joan Shannon has served on the council since 2003.  She tells WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley she likes being able to make a difference in the city.
“I think I can point to many meaningful things that I have done that have influenced the direction of the city and I want to continue to be able to do that and serve my community.”

Incumbent Democrat Joan Shannon faces Independent Paco DeFrancis and Progressive Mohamed Jafar for the South District city council seat in the Town Meeting Day vote Tuesday.  Other interviews with city council candidates from this series are at wamc.org
