Monochrome, Mon Amour features a series of “portraits” of growing things, all in black and white, by photographer Bill Rowley. These plants, shown against a simple black background, literally look lit from within. In the artist’s words, “… when color is removed, the delights of tone, texture and shape can come fully into their own. In a world where color images are the norm, displaying a picture in gray scale immediately conveys to the viewer that this image is not dismissably workaday and trivial—its intent is neither to inform nor persuade, but to offer a visual experience which is meant to be enjoyed for its own sake.” Monochrome, Mon Amour can be seen through the end of the year. Bill is offering a free Zoom talk and demo on December 5 at 2pm. Signup in the gallery’s online store, the link will be sent once you register.
