Albany Book Festival September 10-24

The NYS Writers Institute’s third annual Albany Book Festival will be held September 10-24 with all events taking place online, free and open to the public. For complete schedule of events, visit Special events include a talk with presidential scholar Harold Holzer on his newest book, The Presidents vs. the Press: The Endless Battle Between The White House and the Media — From the Founding Fathers to Fake News. Noam Chomsky and writer/professor Robert Pollin will discuss Climate Crisis and the Global Green New Deal. Edwidge Danticat and Kali Fajardo-Anstine will participate in a one-on-one talk on the short story form. Other featured authors include National Book Award winner Colum McCann; Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking, adapted as a 1995 film starring Susan Sarandon (as Sister Helen) and Sean Penn, and the new memoir River of Fire; former child soldier Ishmael Beah; Cree LeFavour and her husband, New York Times book critic Dwight Garner; New York Times bestselling authors J. Courtney Sullivan, Gish Jen, David Treuer, and Jane Leavy, author of The Big Fella: Babe Ruth and the World He Created; and more. The Albany Book Festival will also feature online workshops covering such topics as "The How-To’s and Business End of Publishing During a Pandemic" presented by author and professor Mary Valentis; "Ask Anything About Book Writing, Publishing, or Marketing" with Tom Swyers, and "So you’re young and want to write," with moderator Jackie Orchard.
