Albany Police have announced that a 17-year-old has been charged in connection with a homicide Wednesday on South Pearl Street, part of a recent escalation in violence

Due to his age, the suspect’s name has not been released.

The 17-year-old is charged with shooting 21-year-old Nyjawaun Thomas of Troy multiple times.

The suspect has also been charged with other shootings this month: June 8 on Central Avenue and June 23 on Second Avenue. Two male victims suffered non-life threatening injuries in the June 8 shooting.

Police say the suspect failed to appear for sentencing for his role in a 2019 shooting on Third Avenue that left a three-year-old with a gunshot wound to the arm.
