Teller Injured By Gunshot In Capital Region Bank Robbery

Authorities continue to investigate a bank robbery Tuesday morning in Rensselaer County.

North Greenbush Police Chief David Keevern says two armed masked men entered the M&T Bank on Route 4 across from Rensselaer Technology Park around 11:30 Tuesday morning.   "They proceeded to rob the bank. The tellers were compliant. They did everything they were supposed to do in conjunction with their training for such a situation.

The suspects had fired shots on their way out the door - one bullet did ??? a teller. Thankfully it was a small minor injury to her arm, a grazing injury only. She was treated and released from that."

Keevern says the robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.   "Shortly after that information was developed that led us to a motel on Watervliet Avenue Extension in Albany where we believe the suspects had been. We were able to gather up a group of suspects. They've all been brought back here for questioning."

He would not say how many suspects police were holding in all. Keevern said one female suspect was being held. There's no word on a motive. The State Police and the FBI are partnering with North Greenbush PD in the investigation.

The Albany Field Office of the FBI confirmed said on Twitter that three suspects are now in federal custody.

There's no word as to whether the North Greenbush robbery may be connected to the February 6th robbery at an Albany Trustco bank branch on New Scotland Ave. Employees told police that around 3:20 pm that two men, wearing masks and armed with guns, entered the bank, demanded money, and escaped.

Albany Police urge anyone who may have seen anything pertaining to either robbery to submit information anonymously at capitalregioncrimestoppers-dot-com.
