A former Capital Region Congressman is back in the headlines.

The Times Union reported that John Sweeney hired a private eye to tail one of his three ex-wives but later refused to pay the fee. The paper says its involved a child custody case where the woman in question realized she was being followed and contacted police.

Sweeney, a Republican, served in Congress from 1999 to 2007, when he lost the seat to Kirsten Gillibrand.

According to the paper, Sweeney appeared in court Wednesday: he's being sued by the CEO of Alliance Worldwide Investigative Group for more than $3,000. Sweeney filed a counterclaim.

Sweeney, who has publicly battled alcoholism, worked for the Trump campaign and transition.
