A summer movie series for city kids is back for another run at Albany's Palace Theatre.
For the fourth season in a row, families from neighborhoods around the Palace Theatre in downtown Albany are invited to the “Summer in the City” Movie Series: eight free, family-friendly movies every Tuesday afternoon in July and August. Susan Fogarty is Executive Director of the Palace Performing Arts Center "They do a great job of making this not only a day of free movies, an opportunity to get out in the air conditioning, but we're able to give kids, all the kids 12 and under get free popcorn and they also get really great nutritional and healthy living information in the lobby prior to the movie."
The theatre will open one hour before showtime for educational activities. "It's a wonderful event for the entire Capital Region but particularly for the neighborhoods right around us. You've got kids and families who can walk to the Palace from Arbor Hill and our surrounding neighborhoods, and it really provides a wonderful, safe and fun activity during the summer."
Summer in the City is one of several free and low-cost arts and educational programs that the Palace presents for children and families. Steve Baboulis is Vice Chairman of the Palace Board of Directors. By way of disclosure, he also serves on WAMC’s Community Advisory Board. "Last year we had 7,500 people, children and families, who attended all of the movie events. And we expect that or more this year. There's some great movies on tap this year. I know we kick off July 10th with ‘Coco’ and later on we go through ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ the ‘Lego Batman Movie, ‘Night At The Museum,’’James and The Giant Peach,’’The Lion King’ and then it ends on August 28th with ‘Moana.’"
Baboulis adds that final event features an ice cream social.
Free tickets may be picked up in advance or on the day of the show at the Palace Theatre Box Office.
