Authorities are investigating the slaying of an upstate New York official who was stabbed while walking his dog.
Police in the Rensselaer County town of North Greenbush say 56-year-old William D. Chamberlain was attacked between 10 and 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Officials say his body was found on a front lawn near his home in a suburban neighborhood along Route 150, a few miles northeast of Albany.
Local police and state troopers cordoned off the area where the killing occurred as they searched for evidence.
Police held a news conference Friday afternoon during which they asked anyone who was in the area around the time of the stabbing to call the North Greenbush Police Department.
Chamberlain was the director of operations for the neighboring city of Troy.
