51% Show #1342

On this week’s 51%, we’ll hear from the co-founder of a web site on loss and grief, where issues are presented candidly. Plus, a man does his part to combat sex trafficking in Argentina;  and Amy Poehler talks about that voice in the mirror.

Candid content, community and resources on loss and grief. It's a club you never wanted to join, but you're welcome here anyway. Those are the words from a web site focused on ditching the stigma of discussing what it’s really like to live with grief and loss. The web site is modernloss.com and Rebecca Soffer, its CEO and co-founder. When she was 30, her mother was killed in a car accident. Four years later, her father died of a heart attack. Rebecca Soffer spoke with 51%’s Joe Donahue for part one of a two-part interview.

That was 51%’s Joe Donahue speaking with Rebecca Soffer, co-founder of modernloss.com. We’ll bring you part two of the interview on the next 51%.

Some critics of popular culture say there aren’t enough accurate portrayals of abortion decisions. But one scholar says, in some recent mother-daughter memoirs, reproductive decision-making gets a fair treatment. Kelley Libby reports.

In Buenos Aires, ads for prostitutes can be found on most street corners. The women to whom those ads lead are often victims of sex trafficking. And there’s an Argentine man --  Jerónimo Velez – who is fighting sex trafficking. Maria Cruz reports from Buenos Aires.

And that’s our show for this week. Thanks to Katie Britton for production assistance. Our executive producer is Dr. Alan Chartock. Our theme music is Glow in the Dark by Kevin Bartlett. This show is a national production of Northeast Public Radio.
