Arizona Sheriff Arpaio Faces New Round Of Contempt Hearings

A new round of federal contempt of court hearings began this week in Phoenix against Joe Arpaio, the Maricopa County sheriff whose immigration enforcement tactics turned him into a national figure. Arpaio’s hearings, originally predicted to last four days in April, reconvened on Thursday. He is facing allegations of defying a judge’s order to stop detaining people solely based on the suspicion that they were in the United States illegally.
