Regular office and gallery hours in autumn/winter are Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Woodstock School of Art, Inc. (WSA) is a not-for-profit educational institution chartered in New York State in 1980, for the purpose of providing fine art instruction to all, with concentration on painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. There are no entrance requirements.

Classes are held year round in classic, spacious, climate controlled north light studios. The Nationally Designated Historic bluestone and native timber buildings were constructed in 1939 under the auspices of FDR's Works Progress Administration and the National Youth Administration. During that time, young men and women, aged 16 to 24, were taught various skills to provide them with the means to earn a living and to live sustainably, including woodworking, metal working and blacksmithing, stone carving, wool production and weaving, agriculture as well as drawing and printmaking. The students also studied how to start and manage their own businesses.

In the late 1940s, the Art Students League of New York made the campus their summer home where they returned each summer until 1979. In 1980, a group of former students and instructors of the League formed the current WSA.

The WSA instructors work with students individually and encourage freedom of expression while providing them with instruction in core skills needed to make art. Classes are relaxed and informal. There are ongoing classes which meet on a regular basis, usually on a four week, once per week basis, or workshops, which are of shorter duration and may concentrate on a specific project or set of goals.

Scholarships, based on merit and financial need are available. For more info, visit www.woodstockschoolofart.org or visit the 38 acre wooded campus, located just east of the hamlet of Woodstock, NY.
