The Museum's mission statement sums up its goals and aspirations: to gather, display, disseminate and develop the concept and reality of "Woodstock," encompassing the culture and history of a living colony of the arts, with special emphasis placed on the exhibition of self-sustaining ecological technologies. Likewise, the Museum seeks to encourage and increase public awareness of "Woodstock" by providing information to the general public through cultural events, displays of artifacts, outreach programs, communication media events and personal experiences and to contribute, as an international attraction, to the cultural life and prosperity of the region. A guided tour of this magical property just outside of Woodstock proper features the movie, "Hipstory," tracing Woodstock Festival roots from early Woodstock Festivals through Woodstock '69, '94 and '99 legacies, including the first Rainbow Gathering in '72 to Woodstock's hippy sister city Nimbin, Australia, now in its third generation. Visitors can see first hand sustainable energy in the living museum, learn the truth about organics, solar energy, marijuana and questioning authority. Lipton and Koenig hold forth on topics as diverse as how to own land in common, work less, create more music and art, build your own, and Native American imperatives. |
