2005 OCEAN RESERVE: Iron Horse Vineyards, Green Valley of Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California. 100% Chardonnay. This limited edition (1,000 cases/12,000 bottles) sparkling wine is created in partnership with the National Geographic Society, expressly to pair with sustainable seafood dishes (recipes on the National Geographic Society website). Iron Horse is owned by three generations of the Sterling family. $40. ($4 of each sale donated by Iron Horse to establish marine protected areas and reduce overfishing around the world).
2006 GEWURZTRAMINER "CUVÉE MARIE": Lucien Albrecht, Alsace, France. Produced from sustainably-grown grapes in the vineyards of the Albrecht family. The family has been producing wines in Alsace since 1425, when Romanu Albrecht settled in the town of Thann. About $27.
NV LADYBUG RED: Lolonis Winery, Redwood Valley, Mendocino County, California. A blend of Zinfandel, Carignane, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Lolonis, now in its third generation as a family-owned winery, own the first certified organic vineyards in California. All of their wines are produced from organically-grown grapes. About $15.
2005 CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA: Badia a Coltibuono, Tuscany, Italy. The wine is made primarily from Sangiovese grapes, and the grapes are grown organically. Badia a Coltibuono is owned by the Stucchi-Prinetti family (since 1846), whose wines are considered some of the finest produced in the Chianti region of Tuscany. About $30.
