Watershed Assessment Associates

Watershed Assessment Associates - Schenectady, NY
An environmental consulting and education firm specializing in freshwater biomonitoring, watershed assessments, macroinvertebrate taxonomy, and educational services from grade school through professional level.

Watershed Assessment Associates, a NYS-certified woman owned business, has been providing excellence in freshwater biomonitoring, watershed assessments, macroinvertebrate taxonomy, and environmental educational services since 1998.

Watershed assessment is an efficient and cost-effective means of evaluating water quality. It provides valuable information for use in community planning, identification of pollution sources, and maintenance of the health and esthetics of a water body. Our assessments can identify impacts to water quality early, and can help to direct preventative, remedial, and restoration efforts. Our watershed evaluation team includes aquatic biologists and NABS-certified benthic macroinvertebrate taxonomists, a geofluvial morphologist, watershed engineer, and GIS specialists.

We work closely with clients to develop project plans tailored to their stream, watershed, or community needs, regardless of project size. We are proficient in NYS DEC, VT DEC, and MA DEP monitoring protocols, and follow strict quality control procedures in the field and the laboratory.

We can help municipalities fulfill their MS4 requirements, and we provide post-mitigation monitoring services. Our environmental educational services include instruction from primary school through professional level. We are available to schedule programming on watershed and ground water dynamics, freshwater biomonitoring, and the mechanics of our canal lock system using hands-on models. Our regular educational courses include:
  • Workshops in freshwater biomonitoring and macroinvertebrate taxonomy for volunteers through professional level
  • The Environmental Study Team, an extra-curricular environmental program for 13-18 year olds
  • Lotic Scene Investigation (LSI), a collegiate applied research program in freshwater monitoring, analysis, and macroinvertebrate taxonomy.
Our clients include state and federal government agencies, watershed associations, municipalities, environmental organizations, private companies, and educational institutions.
