Thousands of homes and businesses across the Northeast remain without electricity in the aftermath of a wild storm that moved through early this morning, taking down trees and power lines. Capital Region Bureau Chief Dave Lucas reports

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The National Weather Service says wind gusts could top 60 mph in parts of upstate New York as a cold front drives temperatures down from record winter highs and brings expected heavy rain in eastern areas and lake-effect snow to western parts of the state.

Renewable energy advocates are praising a vote by a rural consortium of towns in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom supporting wind development.  But opponents say the sample is too small to be of consequence.

At the annual meeting of the Unified Towns and Gores of Essex County, voters supported wind projects by 24 to 16.  Renewable Energy Vermont Gabrielle Stebbins says it reaffirms what other polls and votes across the state have determined.

Traffic was flowing by mid-afternoon Monday on Vermont Route 100 after dozens of anti-wind protesters agreed to move out of the road.
