NEW YORK (AP) — Mayor Michael Bloomberg is urging people to leave work a little early.

Bloomberg also said Friday that New York City hopes to have all streets plowed at least once by midmorning Saturday.

Add up the populations in areas that the National Weather Service is warning will get at least 1 to 2 feet of snow starting Friday afternoon and you quickly see just how serious the situation will be.

About 50 million people are in the potentially historic storm's path.

Some Connecticut stations already out of gas in storm rush

TORRINGTON, Conn. (AP) — Some Connecticut stations already have run out of gas during the rush to prepare for the approaching blizzard.

Motorists say stations in Torrington, West Hartford, Vernon, East Lyme and other towns ran out of fuel Thursday afternoon and evening as people filled their cars and trucks as well as containers for generators and snow blowers. Long lines were reported at many stations.
