Governor Deval Patrick lifts driving ban for Western Mass.

BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick is lifting a ban on driving on Massachusetts roads as of 4 p.m.

The driving ban that went into effect at 4 p.m. Friday because of the massive snowstorm is lifted immediately for Nantucket County and communities west of Interstate 91. It's lifted for everyone else as of 4 p.m. Saturday.

Two storm deaths in New York; Long Island pounded with 30+ inches of snow

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Two deaths in upstate New York are being attributed to the storm.

State police say a 23-year-old man died when the tractor he was using to plow his driveway overturned in Columbia County Friday evening. And a 74-year-old man died when a car slid and hit him as he walked on a Poughkeepsie road.

The National Weather Service reported snowfall totals of 10-12 inches in the mid-Hudson Valley and Adirondacks; 8 inches at Buffalo; 12 inches at Rochester; 6.5 inches in suburban Albany; and 9 inches in Syracuse.

Power outages, transit closures remain in Massachusetts after major winter storm

BOSTON (AP) — A massive snowstorm packing hurricane-force winds has knocked out power to more than 400,000 customers in Massachusetts and has shuttered a nuclear power plant.

Late this morning NStar reported more than 248,000 customers out and National Grid about 160,000. Most are in southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod, where there was wet heavy snow and winds gusting over 75 mph.

Conn. governor orders road closed due to storm as emergency vehicles struggle on snow-covered roads

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut's governor has ordered all roads closed until further notice, expanding a limited travel ban issued Friday afternoon, as officials deal with a storm that dumped more than 2 feet of snow on the state.

Governor Dan Malloy said this morning that stalled or abandoned vehicles will only slow the recovery process.
